Some Art In The Life [Episode 2]

This completes another great day in the makeup world. This time I had a bride-to-be looking for a foundation to stick with, liquid or mineral. I told her liquid would give her great coverage - but break her out in the future (she was working on getting her skin back to normal) and mineral will cover your blemishes and make sure you don't break out anymore. I color matched her, then she wanted to try some eye shadows. Now, she wasn't used to a lot of color, but I chose a pretty neutral base and crease, then went with a bright teal. She liked it, but couldn't see it as an everyday look. I loved that she created a challenge for me and told me what she liked and didn't like. So I toned down the teal by brushing the neutral eye shadows over it & she was sold on the look. I had such a great time! I can't wait until my collection grows enough so I can do freelance! I'm getting so comfortable doing makeup on other people. I don't get nervous anymore and it just feels like we're girlfriends in my room hanging out. There's music playing, lots of colors to choose from and play with and a really relaxing atmosphere. It's almost like I was born to be an artist. Now that I've found my nitch & I'm passionate about it - everything else falls into place. I'm just thankful that I have the opportunity to express myself and do what I love everyday. :)

Some Art In The Life :)

Hello There!

Okay, so I haven't posted anything in a bit & it's because I've been working :) I work at Bare Escentuals & it's a blast! Pivotal moment in Makeup Artistry Career: I actually put makeup on someone I don't know! Yes, this may seem minuscule to an average person. Like - alright...DON'T CARE! But this is really important to me because this is ultimately what I want to do with my life, make people look and feel absolutely gorgeous inside and out! So, here's how it went. There was a mother and daughter coming in. The daughter wanted some foundation to take to school with her this fall. The daughter got her makeup done by my mentor and the Mother liked how it looked so much that she asked if she could have some done on her! Of course we were like 'absolutely!'
I was setting up for my mentor while she was taking care of another customer and little did I know I was the one who was going to color match and put the foundation on her. Oh my goodness was I freaking OUT! This was what I wanted to do with my life - yes and I wanted to get good at it. But, mind you - I had just learned to color match people one hour prior and wasn't 100% confident about doing it on someone else. Despite the fact that I was incredibly new to everything I sucked it up and my mentor guided me through everything and I did it! In fact I did it so well that the very nice lady bought a starter kit, concealer in summer bisque and a eye, lip and cheek kit. I was soooo proud of myself, but the nervousness hadn't worn off yet - so I was still shaking. My mentor told me I did a good job, but I always have little things I like to tweak about the way I do things. All I know is I have a lot more studying and practice to do & I can't wait to get my hands on more people in more shades. I go back Sunday so we'll see what comes my way then :)
Right before my shift was over my mentor told me something that I don't think I'll ever forget - 'All you have to do is tell yourself I am a makeup artist'. I will take that with me through the rest of my career & I deeply appreciate her kind words. I feel like she's my Makeup Mom or something. Haha. Love her & the rest of my new B.E. family.

Have a great night everyone!

Keep following your dreams. :)

Bare Minerals: How To Find Your True Match

Hi guys! So, to start off my makeup kit I obviously need some foundation. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to start with and Bare Minerals was the best choice for me and my skin type. I have combination oily skin, so their formula in 'Matte' was the perfect match. For those of you who don't know much about Bare Minerals, it's a mineral based foundation that 100% natural. That's right - no preservatives, by-products or additives. They have a Matte formula for oily prone skin and an Original formula for normal to dry skin.

So how do you find your true match when there are 20 shades to choose from? Well first you have to choose your general shade.  Here they are:

I have medium to tan skin. Now that you've found your shade range, it's time to find out your undertone. There are three categories of undertones. Cool, warm, and neutral. Cool undertones see their veins as blue and have a rosy complexion.  Warm undertones see their veins as green and have a yellow-olive undertone. Neutral undertones have a combination of both.

I have a warm undertone, so my shade in bare minerals would be Golden Tan. When I went to the Bare Escentuals Boutique I picked up a sample of Medium Tan and Medium Dark and used them together to find my perfect match. I didn't try Golden Tan because I thought I knew my shade already. Boy was I wrong. I will definitely go back and get a full size of Golden tan instead of a Medium Tan and Medium Dark foundation.
